Check out our poll on the side and let me know what your fav nail polish brand is!

Hi guys!  Today I have a review of Deborah Lippmann Sweet Dreams.  I bought this nail polish a couple of months back when I was in Holt Renfrew with my sister.  I had been eyeing this nail polish for a while even though I was disappointed with the name of this collection.  I have touched on this before but this collection was released for Summer 2012 and entitled 3D Holographic.  This is not a holographic nail polish.  This is a flakie glitter nail polish.  (Holographic nail polishes can be found here, here, here, here, here or here as we at L&L are very much in love with holos).

3 coats of Deborah Lippmann – Sweet Dreams topped with Cult Nails Wicked Fast:

I really like this polish.  The base colour is bright and fresh and the flakies shift from  gold to light a purple-tinged  pink.  The formula was easy to apply, had average dry time of about 2 minutes between each coat and great shine even before the top coat.  Overall I’m a big fan of Deborah Lippmann nail polish and this one is another amazing one for me.  I’m really pleased that it is in my collection but remember this is not holographic, okay? 😉

I bought this at Holt Renfrew for $22 CDN.

Murale Haul

I hope you are having a good weekend so far.  Today I wanted to share a haul that I did last weekend.  One of the more popular drugstores in Canada is called Shoppers Drug Mart.  They have a points program called Shoppers Optimum where you get points for every purchase you make, outside of drug and lottery purchases.  It is a tier reward system as well so the more points you have the more points you can redeem.  For example if you have 8,000 points you can redeem $10 off your purchase (800 points = $1) however if you have 95,000 points you can redeem $170 off your purchase (589 points = $1).

Where am I going with this you ask?  Through talking with a reader Joanna, I was told that there was a store called Murale that was linked with Shoppers Drug Mart.  However this store features more high end brands that you can’t typically find in a Shoppers.  In the past 10 years (or so) Shoppers has added and developed their Beauty Boutique sections a little more carrying brands like Dior, benefit, Shisiedo etc.  But even still I have never seen any Shoppers carry Deborah Lippmann, NARS, Chanel or YSL which I found at Murale.  Now the great thing about this is that you can earn Shoppers Optimum points while shopping there but the BEST thing about it is you can redeem points there as well!

So this is what I got for only $36 after tax when I redeemed 95,000 points for $170 worth of product:

2 Bioderma Gift Sets, Clinque Almost Lipstick in Black Honey, Chanel Paradoxal, Deborah Lippmann Billionaire and benefit brow zings in medium

The downside is that from what I can see you are unable to redeem points when you buy online and there are only half a dozen stores located all across Canada.

Also just another FYI you can combine points with your friends to maximize your redeeming power.  I was at 88,000 points but my husband had a handful so we went online and he was able to transfer some to me to get me up to 95,000 instantly and without any trouble.

When was the last time you made a big purchase of makeup?

Hi there! To all the Canadian readers I hope you had a great long weekend.

Today I have a review of another one of the nail polishes that I purchased when I was in Las Vegas.  Last year I believe a mini collection of this and 2 other polishes came that were exclusive to Nordstrom.  So when I was in Nordstrom I was very excited to see the full size verison of the minis so I picked out the one that I liked.  And now for the pictures!

3 coats of Deborah Lippmann – Just Dance:

This polish is actually all glitter based, similar to Deborah Lippmann Mermaid’s Dream but all one colour.  It felt as if it was like I had little blue disco balls on my nails. 🙂 I loved the colour and the formula however clean up was difficult because the small pieces of glitter move around when you are cleaning up.  But I did as best as I could and when they were dry I washed my hands, went to bed and hoped for the best.  Most of the stray glitters were gone by then.  It wore pretty well on me and lasted for about 4 days before major chips in the polish.

You can find this at Nordstrom.

I hope you are all enjoying your weekend.  Today I have some nails that I did yesterday that was inspired by Oktoberfest and the German beer, Löwenbräu.

When I was reviewing some nail polish from the OPI Germany collection I mentioned that I went to Germany on my honeymoon last year.  When my husband and I were in Munich we made a stop off at Oktoberfest one of the days we were there. Well Oktoberfest started in Germany yesterday (Sept 22) and I was thinking it would be nice to get into the Oktoberfest spirit.  So I stopped at my local liquor store and picked up a couple of cans of Löwenbräu beer (bier) which was one of the tents we stopped in when we were there.  But when I saw how pretty the cans were I wanted to create a nail look inspired by it.

Let’s take a look at some of the pictures shall we…

OPI Roadhouse Blues, Deborah Lippmann On The Beach, OPI Gold Lang Syne

with the stein that I bought at Oktoberfest

And finally after the nails were all done…

What I actually wanted to do was paint a gold tip along my nails but I didn’t have any gold nail polish in my collection.  Can you guys recommend one to me?

What do you think?  Isn’t Deborah Lippmann’s On The Beach a spot on colour for the can?  Are you ever inspired to do your nails by an object?

Lacquer Look-a-Likes: Deborah Lippmann Daytripper

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a good weekend.  Today I have a polish comparison to show you for Deborah Lippmann’s Daytripper.  I think that this is a great colour for the spring and summer; it’s so bright and fresh.  But I understand that $20 plus for a nail polish is not for everyone so I wanted to try to find a suitable dupe for all of you.

I searched high and low for a colour that could compare and it was really hard.  I thought Sally Hansen Tutti Frutti would have worked, but it was too pink.  I thought Revlon ColorStay Marmalade would work but that was too orange.  I finally found something when I came across American Apparel Pink Ladies.

On my nails I have 2 coats of American Apparel Pink Ladies and 3 coats of Deborah Lippmann Daytripper.

Pinky to Index – Daytripper, Pink Ladies, Daytripper, Pink Ladies:

The formula on these was very different.  Daytripper was much more of a sheer jelly/creme where Pink Ladies had a thick creme formula.  That was mainly the reason I needed to use 3 coats for Daytripper; I tried to build it up to be opaque. While there is a slight difference in the pictures in real life there is no difference in colour.

I bought Daytripper at Holt Renfrew for $20 and I bought Pink Ladies for 3 for $18.

Do you buy high-end nail polish? Would you like to see more drugstore brands featured on the blog?

Deborah Lippmann – The Stripper to Go

I’m so excited it’s the start of the long weekend!

Today I have a different kind of post for you.  As you might have guessed I am a big fan of Deborah Lippmann’s nail polish.  I was asked by Nail Polish Canada if I would like to review a nail polish remover product by Deborah Lippmann called The Stripper to Go.  Typically when I remove nail polish I use a combination of acetone, glycerin and water.  However I actually have used Deborah Lippmann’s The Stripper before as it came in a gift set that I purchased but I had never used the to go version.

Ingredients:

1 box comes with 6 mitts.  I had no idea what the mitt would look like.  But it’s like a little cover for your nail.  It’s really cute.

I was most skeptical about the claim that 1 mitt removes nail polish on all 10 nails.  I tried it out on 2 different polishes, a creme and glitter polish.  Deborah Lippmann On The Beach and China Glaze Emerald Sparkle were my two choices.

Removal of Deborah Lippmann’s On The Beach took 2 mitts for all 10 nails:

Removal of China Glaze Emerald Sparkle took 3 mitts for all 10 nails:

Overall: I found the mitts to be very moisturizing, even more so then the original The Stripper.  Something about the felt mitt and the aloe must be it.  I think it did a great job of removing the colours, even the glitter which is notoriously difficult to remove.  I’m not a huge fan of lavender scented anything but this was not too offensive to me.  And while I was not able to get one mitt to remove all the nail polish from all 10 fingers it did a much better job then I thought.  Even though it did not meet this claim I would MUCH rather take this with me on a trip then risk bringing a bottle of acetone that could open and spill.  I think these are great for travel and I will be picking up some more in case I do go away this summer.

You can find it on Nail Polish Canada here and 1 box has 6 mitts and retails for $12 CAD.

What do you think? What do you use to remove your nail polish? Would you pack bottles of remover on a trip.

Happy weekend!  This week flew on by.  Probably helped that I was off for the first 2 days of this week!  When you think Wednesday is Monday you know you are in for a good week!  Today I have a full review of Deborah Lippmann’s Run the World (Girls) set.  Finally picked it up when I saw it at the Holt Renfrew a few weeks ago.  Since they are neons they were a little difficult to photograph; even when I took them outside they were showing up too light on my camera.  So please bear with me if some of the pictures are darker and I would only put them in if they are colour accurate.

Bottle Shots and Size Comparison:

As you can see these are mini bottles and only 8mL compared to the regular Deborah Lippmann polishes which are 15mL.  Also when Deborah came out of the e-mail offer it included a matte top coat.  So I will also be showing you what each colour looks like with a matte top coat.

3 coats of I Kissed a Girl w/top coat:

3 coats of I Kissed a Girl w/matte top coat:

I liked I Kissed a Girl a lot.  It is fun, bright and perfect for the summertime.

4 coats of It Girl w/top coat:

I looked HORRIBLE on me so I applied it with white underneath on 2 fingers:

Much better! I would wear this now!

4 coats of It Girl w/matte top coat:

I don’t think I would ever wear it without white underneath; it looks too much like egg yolk.

3 coats of Hollaback Girl w/top coat:

3 coats of Hollaback Girl w/matte top coat:

The Pantone colour of the year!  This reminds me of a juicy orange.

3 coats of Nasty Girl w/top coat:

3 coats of Nasty Girl w/matte top coat:

I wish there wasn’t so much VNL with this colour.  But I love how this colour looks.

3 coats of Party Girl w/top coat:

3 coats of Party Girl w/matte top coat:

More coral based than Hollaback girl.  Still a bright colour.

Overall I really liked this little set.  Let’s face it I’m probably never going to go through all of the polishes in my collection and I don’t need full size bottles of everything.  Even though the bottle and brush was smaller it didn’t give me application problems.  I don’t like It Girl on its own but I think it looks great over a white base.  I wish that Nasty Girl was more opaque but I can get over that and instead use it for a jelly sandwich from time to time.  I’m happy I bought this set and would buy it again.

I purchased this for $48 CDN at Holt Renfrew and you can buy it here on Nail Polish Canada for $48 as well.  I believe however it retails for $45 in the US and on Lippmann’s site.

What do you think? Do you ever purchase mini sets?

Hi there! I hope all of you had a wonderful weekend.  Today I have a review of Deborah Lippmann’s On The Beach.  This was released as part of the spring 2012 collection along with Mermaid’s Dream which Loren already reviewed and you can check out here.  I picked this up at the end of April from Holt Renfrew when they were having a gift with purchase.

3 coats of Deborah Lippmann’s On The Beach indoors w/flash:

3 coats of Deborah Lippmann’s On The Beach indoors w/o flash:

I have said this many times before but I think Deborah Lippmann makes really great nail polishes and I think that this colour is no exception.  It did however really need 3 coats because it was a little patchy after 2 thin coats.  You could probably get away with 2 thicker coats and you would be fine.  Other than that I had no problems with the application or removal.  I think that this is a really great fresh looking blue and it is perfect for this time of year or for a pedicure colour all year round!

I purchased this at Holt Renfrew for $20 CDN.

Hi there! I hope your Monday wasn’t too bad!  Today I have a review of Deborah Lippmann’s Purple Rain.  I got this recently as a gift with purchase at Holt Renfrew when I purchased a couple other Deborah Lippmann colours.

4 coats of Deborah Lippmann Purple Rain indoors w/o flash:

4 coats of Deborah Lippmann Purple Rain indoors w/flash:

Purple Rain was a collaboration with Zac Posen and named after the classic movie and song by Prince.  (Look at that puffy shirt!)

While this is a nice colour I wish it wasn’t so brush stroke-y.  It sort of has like a chrome finish to it.  It really never leveled out even with 4 coats of polish.  I’m not a huge fan of this nail polish and I’m not sure I would reach for it very often.

Note: This might have been discontinued because I’m not able to find it on her website.

Happy hump day!  Loren and I have been really busy the past couple of nights helping out at a dance recital.  The girls did so well and we could not be more proud!  Today I have a review of Deborah Lippmann’s Sarah Smile which is a polish that my sister gave to me for my birthday one year.

4 coats of Deborah Lippmann Sarah Smile indoors with flash

4 coats of Deborah Lippmann Sarah Smile indoors without flash

This polish was nice but pretty streaky which is very different from most of the other Deborah Lippmann polishes that I own.  It was only after 4 coats did I get it to look streak free.  I did a comparison of this polish to OPI Barre My Soul which you can check out here.  It was not a dupe to that but it is still a nice colour.  I wish that it would have been easier to apply but I still really like the look of it.  This is an office appropriate colour for sure.
